ETON G1100 Digital World Receiver Radio Rwview of the World Receiver

Great little radio, (What's this?) This radio was purchased mainly for listening to FM radio in an office building that blocks most radio signals that get to my walkman. The antenna makes reception acceptable inside the office building, but outside or in my house the reception and sensitivity is phenomenal.
Great radio!, (What's this?) This is a great little radio. My husband had one just like it for several years and finally dropped it one too many times. He was heartbroken until we found this one. Easy to use, gets great reception, good sound.
A gem of a small radio, (What's this?) I really like this little radio. This radio is not up to the standards of somewhat larger models from Eton/Grundig, but it is very, very nice. The instruction manual is easy to read, the buttons and dials work very well. The LCD display is quite readable. I think all radios of this size should simply come with ear buds, and this one didn't. Ear buds are just too useful to not include, and the sound through ear buds (or better yet through ear phones) is actually an improvement over the good little speaker.

Sound from the speaker is OK. It's not what one should expect from a larger radio, but this speaker works fine. When mated to a random wire, a lot of shortwave comes in well. Actually, a lot of shortwave comes in fine just using the standard antenna. I've used this to listen to radio from Asia, and Europe with success. The drift on FM is slight but real. It is easily manageable.
Better than TV audio....., (What's this?) Watch the UNI Games on TV but listen to the radio commentator.... Much more interesting to have local comments...
The other reviewers were right...get the eTon 10 or eTon 100, (What's this?) This radio doesn't have the pulling-in power on Shortwave as the eTon 10 or eTon 100. Maybe wait for a sale on the eTon 10 or 100.
Great Little Radio, (What's this?) I have about 5 Grundig/Eton radios. I've been buying Grundig radios since my dad bought me my first short wave radio (Grundig Satellite) over 40 years ago. Anyway, this is a nice little radio. I like the "rubberized" finish. This radio will not slip out of your hands. It has a decent little speaker. When you plug in headphones, great stereo sound. Other Grundig radios do come with earbuds/headphones, this one does not. I like the tight tuning on the radio. Its a lot better than the tuning on the MINI 300. It DOES have 12/24 hour time format. As a previous reviewer said, with the radio off hold down the Hour button until AM/PM displays. It has an Alarm, and Sleep feature. Shortwave stations come in fine, with a little drift (which happens on most smaller SW radios). It picks up many more FM radio stations than a "normal" radio. I live in the middle of nowhere, and get great reception with all my Grundig/Eton radios.
Good value, considering its size and price. Get the e100 if you have extra $$$, I purchased this radio a couple weeks and so far I am quite pleased with it.

This is an ultra lightweight radio, only a little larger than a deck of cards. I wanted it to serve a specific purpose: provide stable radio reception to keep me entertained when I run. Every two days, I go for a one-hour jog, and despite having two iPods (Shuffle and Video), I appreciate listening to live radio when I run. Ipods are great, but unless you upload content on a daily basis, they get boring. Even if you have ten thousand songs on your iPod, they will all be old songs tomorrow!

Earlier, I purchased and tried a Sony SRF-M37, based on the glowing reviews online. I returned it the next day: terrible sound, poor reception of even the strongest stations in my city, Winnipeg (Canada).

I decided to try the Eton Grundig g1100 after trying it out at the local Source (formerly "Radio Shack"). I haven't found many reviews on this radio online, so I thought I would share my views.

Here's what I like about it:
1) It uses two AA batteries, rather than AAA batteries. This provides plenty of power for headphones, even full sized headphones like the Grado sr80's or Sennheiser HD 485. Both of these headphones, by the way, improve the sound quality immensely.
2) Reception so far has been excellent. I listen to both AM and FM, and all the stations I listen to come in crystal clear when I am running outside.
3) The rubberized coating of the radio makes it easy to grip with one hand. This is great for when you're on the go, which I think is the intended purpose of a radio of this size.
4) Large, easy to read LCD screen automatically lights up whenever any buttons are pressed, or when the tuning dial is turned.
Best shortwave value under $25, I have a fair number of low-cost shortwave radios, and this one stands out. I understand that the G1100 is the same thing (minus the stereo FM) as the Tecsun DR-920 which is what I have.

The digital frequency display is great and the dial illumination is outstanding. There are so many radios that are hard to read or unusable in low light situations; this one shines.

This radio has a tuning knob. The digital display just shows where you have tuned it.
Rwview of the World Receiver, (What's this?) This compact receiver goes with my older large one, and is more fun to use.

I was glad to find it on Amazon.
Grundig G1100, Great radio! I purchased this unit so I could listen to AM sports talk while delivering mail in the city (walking). I have NEVER lost a signal while moving. Mine was packaged with ear buds, a soft case, and even batteries!!
No issues so far.

Midland Outfitter Series GXT785VP3 42-Channel 34-Mile 2-Way GMRS Radio with NOAA All Hazard /Weather Alert, Rechargeable Two way radios

Two way radios, (What's this?) Great product. Exactly what I wanted and it met my every need. Highly recommend product and experience. You will not be disappointed.
Better than expected!, (What's this?) I ordered this never owning a walkie-talkie before. The shipping by Amazon was great. I received it in 3 days.
Quality not good, (What's this?) Got this because the yellow Motorola walkie talkie was out of stock. Reception was poor and only worked out to the parking lot. It might be because you have to use it in open fields. Sound quality was not good at close range either. To use inside an office to communicate with others is not recommended. It is also very large.. about 9 inches long with the antenna, so it does not easily fit into your pocket. I recommend the Motorola brand walkie talkies. Although I have to say the duck, cougar and wolf calls were fun to play with.
Midlan Outfitter Series GXT785VP3, (What's this?) Just got back from a hunting trip where terrain varied from open alpine to dense timber. Radios worked extremely well. Did not do any communicating over about a mile or so but the reception and clarity were excellent. Used the standard rechargable battery for 3 days before running low. For the price I don't think you can do better.
Great Radios for people who know how to use them!, This is a great product. I have read other peoples postings about not working around their block. Well they are not made for that. There is too much interference in a neighborhood. If you want radios that will work in these areas you will have to pony up a little more money. You don't see police and paramedics with GMRS radios do you? I do a lot of hunting and these work great for their intended purpose. I can be all over the mountain and still hear others with me that are miles away. Great sound quality and battery life.
Good radios, (What's this?) We use radios on our 20-acre property, where we're thinning trees and doing other outdoor work. Radios are a lot better than hand signals when we're working together, and easier than running around looking for each other when we're apart. Since some of the work is dangerous, radios are a good safety measure.

We bought these radios recently to replace a pair of the predecessor model that we wore out. (Too much rough handling broke one of the antennas, I think, and reception went downhill.)

We have been happy with both pair. This model has more channels, otherwise the same features. Power and reception are very good in hills and forest over the 1/3-mile maximum range we use them in. One battery charge lasts all day.

The top volume does not seem to be quite as loud on the new pair. I wish they came in some color other than camo -- drop one on the forest floor and you'll need the other radio to locate it.

    Ion Stick(TM) expensive

Very handy to have this, (What's this?) This little device is great I weeded out devices that work and ones that don't put out negative ions, it's easy to use just keep your thumb on the front metal part and don't touch the back metal part to get a good read move it around the air you ar testing slowly.
expensive, (What's this?) The product work like advertised,is a tester to see if you have or not ions around you,I don't know how exact is the measurement ,but look like a very chiep toy,and after I ordered it,I saw it on ebay with half price(50 USD).I think the normal price is much lower. So I made a bad deal.

  • low cost, use over and over
  • very small and light weight
  • Range: 1 x 10^4 to 1,999 x 10^7 (ions/cm³)
  • measures + and - ions in air
  • simple to operate

  • low cost, use over and over.very small and light weight.Range: 1 x 10^4 to 1,999 x 10^7 (ions/cm³).measures + and - ions in air.simple to operate. Budget Air Ion Tester

This has got to be the simplest and lowest cost way to measure Air Ions. Very easy to use and so small it's barely bigger than a finger. Especially good for testing ion generators and air purifiers which claim to produce ions.

Coby CX-96 All Weather Sport PLL AM/FM Radio with Arm Band

wonderful for fitness club use., (What's this?) Not sure why people complain. I love this radio.
Use at my fitness club, way better than my smartphone radio.
Smaller and cheaper than Sony radio.
Fairly good, (What's this?) I use this product for outdoor excercing. Jogging and bicycling. It provides an acceptable reception on my favorite AM stations. Digital tuning is very convenient. A little akward to assembly, and the earphones are not acceptable for my use (It slips off my ear lobes). I had to buy more appropiate earphones.
Fair to Middling, (What's this?) AM reception in Baltimore is pretty good. Surprisingly, FM is not that great. Some local FM stations do not come in very clearly. I was not able to figure out how to use the arm band, so I just took the elastic arm band off my old broken radio and put it on this one. Difficult to cruise the preset stations as you can only go in one direction (i.e. 1 to 2 to 3, but not from 3 back to 2). If you pass the preset that you wanted, you have to go all the way to 10 and back around again. Batteries seem to burn out fairly quickly.

All that being said, you can't expect too too much for the price. So I am not "disappointed", but it would have been a nice susprise if the above problems did not exist.
WORST SERVICE, (What's this?) I have ordered this Coby CX-96 arm band radio about 1 month ago. They sent to me first time damaged Coby CX-96. I informed amazon.com about this problem. Than amazon sent to me new one Coby CX-96 for free, I was vary pleased BUT after that they request to send back the damaged Coby CX-96. I wrote that in our poor country we have not such a service and I could't send back Coby CX-96 and I ask them not to charge my credit card because it was their mistake. BUT they did not foresee my trouble and my request and charge my credit card. They have the worst service I have ever seen.
Coby, (What's this?) If you're looking for a portable cheap radio to go running or walking this is your item. Perfect no complaints what so ever.
This is a piece of junk. Save your money -- don't buy it., (What's this?) There's not much more I can add to that, except to provide some details. Principally, it it can't provide a clear signal for powerful stations in Boston. For instance, WGBH is has such a good signal that you can get it 50 miles away in your car, but right here in town, the Coby can barely pick it up, and if you run by a building, the signal fuzzes out. Most annoyingly, the Coby randomly switches bands on its own so that for instance you'll have it set on WGBH (89.7), and it will just switch you to 89.6, again causing the signal to deteriorate. It's pretty much the worst radio I've ever encountered.
Great reception and sound HORRIBLE strap, (What's this?) Works great in my gym but signal does start to go down after about 20 yrds. The strap is a NIGHTMARE to figure out how to get it on the arm. But other than that it seems to work fine. I have not had it long enough to see how the batteries last in this thing but it is ok. I like how the clock stays on when power is off.
Coby Alll weather sport radio, (What's this?) I love the fact that I can program my favorite stations and the hold button so I don't accidently change / push a button while I am adjusting it for the hundredth time. The Radio often moves (slips around) while running / exercising so frequently, numerous re-adjustments are necessary. Then if the velcro closures are in the wrong spot (such as, near inside of arm) they will rub and irritate your skin. In addition, the Radio I rec'd in the mail had the velcro closures sewn on the wrong way - I did the repair myself. It's a great option for people who can't afford MP3 players but the concept was not executed correctly. I would suggest the design team go back to the drawing board.
Good product, (What's this?) Found this radio to be of highest quality. The arm band works great. The sound is very good and it is easy to use.
Great Product, (What's this?) Radio comes in clear and easy to use as I'm running or riding my bike Have used the radio everyday for more then an hour each day and still on my first battery.

  • Uses two "AAA" batteries, not included
  • Detachable armband
  • 20 preset stations and digital clock
  • Features digital tuning and Dynamic Bass Boost System (DBBS)
  • Lightweight earphones for stereo sound

  • Uses two "AAA" batteries, not included.Detachable armband.20 preset stations and digital clock.Features digital tuning and Dynamic Bass Boost System (DBBS).Lightweight earphones for stereo sound. The Coby CX-96 all weather sports radio is the perfect companion for your workout. Whether you're in the gym lifting weights, out for a run or walk, or stretching out before or after a game, the CX-96 AM/FM radio lets you keep up with the latest news and traffic reports, follow your favorite sports teams, or just listen to whatever music station you're in the mood for. Lightweight and compact, the CX-96 runs on two "AAA" batteries and comes with a detachable armband that lets you hang it securely on your arm, where it won't interfere with your movements.

A sensitive digital tuning dial helps you find the best reception possible, while the 20 presets let you find your stations in a snap. The CX-96 also features the Dynamic Bass Boost System (DBBS) to let you enjoy those pulsating lower frequencies, as well as a digital clock. Lightweight earphones are included to give you stereo sound. With all these features coming in such a small radio, the CX-96 is an AM/FM radio that will keep you connected to the airwaves and your day on schedule no matter what you're doing.

    Armband Radio AM/FM Digital Tuner

Pure junk, (What's this?) If you want to waste some money, do it in a way they does not fill the garbage dump. This product did not receive any FM stations, in a metropolitan area. Pure garbage.
AWFUL RECEPTION!!! STICK TO AN IPOD OR XM SIRIUS PORTABLE RADIO, Ok so this is the third radio I've reviewed, and three time's a charm. In my previous review, I said that I would replace my sony radio because the reception still sucks. I went back to exchange it for this device, and it was the worst portable radio I've had. The reception was so awful that I went back and had my money refunded. I don't even know why the heck do they make these things if most of the radio stations won't even work. Here's my advice. Don't waste your money on these portable radios. You'll get less stations than what you payed for depending on the price. Like I've said before if you want to use a portable device just stick to an IPOD or mp3 player or better yet if you like being outdoors just get an xm/sirius subscription for only $12.95 a month. I have a portable XM Radio but since it only works outdoors and I ride the bus alot, and I study at school and wait between classes I still wanted to hear local radio, but because of the kind of radios stores are selling now I guess that won't be happening. One more thing to point of, your satisfaction for radios like these depends on the market where you live and what your music tastes are radio wise.
You get what you pay for, For about $15, I don't understand what these whiners expected. I use this radio on my bike rides and I have no prob with most of the FM stations, nice and clear, the AM station is another story, I get most of them and many have some kind of noise or inteference with them, some are not that bad at all. You have to keep in mind that this radio uses the headset wire as its antenna and sometimes you may have to re-align it to get the best reception. All in all, for $15 bucks it does its job.
The headphone happens to be very confortable, good sound and I can still hear the traffic around me, so I consider them safe. I also like the fact that they fit from behind your neck instead of wraping around the top of your head. The controls are also well done, It takes one long push of a button for the radio to seek to the next station, it has memory for your fabs, reponsive volume control, heck! what else do expect for the money. If you are not picky, I recommend it.
Terrible product, The worst Amplitude Modulation reception I've ever encountered on a portable radio device. Seriously, the AM frequency is comically bad, as if it were some kind of sick joke on behalf of the manufacturer. Incompetence on a design level or cost corners cut are the only logical explanations in my mind for how it could be this nonfunctional. Only one station on the AM dial in my area comes in reasonably well through this maddening abomination but it's entirely dependent on where I'm at geographically; if I'm going up an incline or I'm near a metropolitan area, all bets are off. If I'm in flat terrain with no other interfering electronic stimulus within a multi-mile radius this sole station maybe comes in static-free for a few minutes if I'm lucky. Also, the armband design is cumbersome and it devours batteries with ridiculous ease. When I finally locate a quality portable radio replacement I'm going to destroy this thing ceremonially with a sledge hammer. In fairness the FM did come in exponentially better but as a person who bought it almost entirely for AM usage my harsh criticism and bottom-of-the-barrel star rating are justified.
it doesnt work, (What's this?) It looks good but i put in new batteries n it still didnt work.

Sony ICF-SW23 FM / MW / SW1-7 Portable World Band Receiver Radio (Japan Import)

Make sure you get the SW band coverage you expect, The Sony SW 2x series radios were great. I think the 23 is still made new by Sony as indicated by this listing. The 2x series radios have Dual conversion (so very little breakthrough and images from strong stations), and are very sensitive on AM and SW.

But, these were manufactured with DIFFERENT SW coverage for different parts of the world. So make sure before you buy, what you want in terms of coverage and then make sure the radio provides this coverage. For example if you want 7-7.5 MHZ coverage make sure the radio provides it. Sony SW 2x versions may or may not have this range depending on which world version you buy. Still the 2x radios are just excellent in general. I recommend them. Great survival and general listing radios. Yes, they are small, so they are not high fidelity, but if sensitivity is the main thing along with great selectivity, then these are THE radio to have for emergencies or camping, etc. Just be sure you get the SW band coverage you want.

Kaito KA2031 AM/FM NOAA Wearther Radio with Alert & Sleep/Wake-up Timer

Hit or Miss ?, Seemed to have a great combo of features at a bargain price.
I couldn't get it to work. Contacted "inscrutable" Kaito Rep, they wouldn't exchange, was told to press reset button, I was resetting all the time. Couldn't get features to work consistently or any reasonable volume with or without external antenna. Ordered the AC adapter from Kaito, it never showed up. Wanted the NOAA SAME alert feature with the clock radio and alarm features. Never got that far to try them. Gave up and tossed it on my gadget junk pile. Glad I got off cheap, could have been worse, no more Kaito Experiences for me. Too bad, I've read soome good things about their other radios, but my customer service "treatment" combined with a dud unit really put me off.
Big Buttons are GREAT, (What's this?) I like it a lot so far ,,, I must now wait to see how long batteries last ,,, It has all the basic features like a light and many storage locations for AM and FM ,,, easily stored to and accessed !!!

    I LOVE THE BIG BUTTONS.
    Don't ever buy, (What's this?)
It didn't work at all!, The biggest mistake that I made was throwing the receipt away, cause I would have returned it in a second. I put the batteries in and the clock came on immediately, but I could not get the radio to work/ turn on. I left it on as I didn't have time to full with it. Later that night the radio came on randomly and then it wouldn't let us turn save the channel presets. Then it wouldn't let us turn the radio off. We ended up taking the batteries out. So the next step is to throw it out. Maybe this one was is faulty, but I wouldn't recommend wasting your money.
Poor reception, (What's this?) The radio works, but I have been disappointed with it's reception of some FM stations that other radios can pick up.
Very Poor Audio Quality, (What's this?)
    Total Junk..., (What's this?)
Poor reception, poor sound, I was looking for a radio with digital tuning. I am disappointed with the Kaito. The AM reception is poor even with the external antenna. The sound is very tinny.

I would not recommend the Kaito KA2031. It's inexpensive but, for me, unusable.
Perfect sprcimen, (What's this?) Nice radio. Arrived quickly and works for exactly what we needed it for. Perfect for our camper trailer.
Returned this radio., Many reasons why I returned this radio was that the buttons to operate it were much too hard to use. The reception was not as advertised. I guess you get what you pay for.

  • Sleep/Wake-up timer perfect for afternoon naps.PLL synthesized radio with minimized signal drifting.20 Memories, 10 for AM and 10 for FM.ALL 7 pre-programmed NOAA weather stations with real time alert.Due to the digital TV transition enacted on June 12, 2009, analog TV broadcasts are no longer supported. No analog TV broadcasts will be receivable. The newly released Kaito KA2031 Digital Synthesized portable radio provides the most accurate drift-free tuning of all available radio stations for listening to radio talk and music shows on the AM/FM bands as well as up to the minute weather from your local Weather Band broadcasts. It can also give you real time weather alert even when the radio is off. With direct digit-entry operation and 10 direct keys for memory presets, this radio allows quick access to your favorite stations. There are twenty presets, 10 stations for AM and 10 for the FM.. One important feature of the KA2031 is the sleep/wake-up timer. With this feature, it is possible to not only have the radio turn off after a selected amount of time (10-90 minutes), but also to have the radio turn on at a preset time. This 3-band radio picks up FM, AM and weather channels. FM frequencies range between 87.6 and 108 MHz while AM frequencies range from 530 to 1710 kHz. You will pick up weather channels 1-7. Unlike some other radios with NOAA weather receptions, the KA2031 is pre-programmed with all 7 channels, from 1-7, so no more guess work when tuning in. You can listen to the radio via the speaker, or through optional headphones via the headphone jack. Whether through the built-in ferrite bar antenna or the telescopic FM and weather antenna, you are sure to receive the best possible reception. To power this sleek, ergonomic radio, use either an optional AC adapter or three AA batteries. Call toll free 866-524-8676 to order the AC adapter for this radio.

TECSUN PL-380 DSP FM stereo. MW. SW. LW. World Band PLL Radio Receiver, LCD Display, ETM Function Added

Excellent, (What's this?) This portable radio is excellent in sensitivity, selectivity and build quality. Since I have been with amateur radio and SWL'ing since the 60's, I admit, it is hard to accept that a hand held radio, using a DSP chip can be so good, but it is. I thoroughly enjoy how this radio and suggest it to newcomers and seasoned listeners alike. It will not decode 'ham' transmissions on shortwave, but it's AM/FM and SW broadcast performance is great. Hi Fi sound, no, but, it's a small radio using the latest DSP technology from a US company (Silicon Labs). One feature you will like is ETM, in which the radio will scan whatever band you want--FM, AM or SW and store all the stations into memory that you then can scroll through. Again, in the 60's when I started shortwave listening, you manually tuned the radio through the shortwave frequencies to find stations to listen to. With this Tecsun, you press a button, wait a couple of minutes, and then you use the tuning dial to find out what the radio discovered for you. Maybe takes the mystery out of it, but very utilitarian and ETM works! Get this and enjoy. Thanks.
A Great Item for the Right Person, (What's this?) This radio is a great product and a great value. It is not for the casual listener who wants only to listen to his local FM stations. It requires an investment of time and a bit of patience to learn how to use its amazing set of features, but pays handsomely for one's trouble with great and versatile performance. I've never seen such a great value. If you're someone who travels widely, wants to listen to short wave, or needs a unit that you can tailor to your unique needs, this is the unit for you.
Easy to tune, very good reception, lousy documentation, (What's this?) I bought this radio to replace an analog tuning radio I had in my emergency kit. After a long power failure that even took our TV stations off the air, I struggled to tune to the radio station that was still transmitting. This radio looked like a good deal with some great options. It meet my expectations in the ability to receive far away FM stations (LA stations from San Diego) and ease of tuning using the keypad. The instructions however were so terse and poor that I found it hard to figure out how to store in memory and scan the memory. With more detailed, step by step instructions, I would have given it a perfect score.
Ultralight World Band Radio. I'm impressed., I recently purchased a Tecsun PL-380 from Kaito Electronics the US supplier. Upon opening the box the first impression was just how ultralight weight the radio is compared to my other world band portables, yet still has a solid feel when holding the case. It is really pleasing to see the workmanship and quality of the Chinese radios improving, although I note that the prices have also been increasing as well. It wasn't long ago that Japan lead the way in world band radios with the likes of Sony, then Taiwan with the likes of Sangean taking the market and now it looks like it is China with Tecsun. We should be thankful that at least someone is still manufacturing world band radios considering the demise of many of the major SW broadcasters in the west.

Anyway back to the radio. The radio didn't come with batteries or a USB charger, but came with a clip-on antenna wire, earphones and a small zippered pouch that includes a small earphone pouch...hmm very thoughtful. After unpacking I installed 3 x AA NiMH (from another Kaito radio) and the radio immediately identified on the display "NiMh" and the charge state.
Great Buy!, (What's this?) Since I rely on so many reviews for my Amazon purchases, I figured it was high time I finally wrote one myself. I can't think of a better one to start with than the Tecsun PL-380.

I've had the Etón G2000A, the Etón E100, the Etón Buzz Aldrin and the Radio Shack "Travel Radio" (the last two were returned) and this is the best by far.

I'm not really a shortwave guy. I usually just listen to the radio in bed before I go to sleep, so I needed a small radio with not a lot of high tech features.

    This one is perfect.

The ETM tuning, regular memory tuning and direct entry are all convenient and easy to work with. The buttons are easy to use and not too small and the build seems solid to me. (As a U.S. citizen, I don't have much of a problem buying merchandise from a actual Chinese company. I do however take issue with American and European companies that have their factories in China. There's a big difference to me.)

Anyway, all in all it's a fantastic value for the price point.
TECSUN PL-380 SW radio, (What's this?) I am just happy to have and use this little radio so I can listen to SW stations (I do not care about AM/FM). The reception is very good, clear and easy if you use the memery functions to jump from one frequency to another. The amber light is good when you are listening to the radio with low light or being near the fireplace. Overall, I am happy to have it.
Krishnan, (What's this?) TECSUN PL-380 DSP FM stereo. MW. SW. LW. World Band PLL Radio Receiver, LCD Display, ETM Function Added

I am very much disappointed to find that the ETM feature is defective for MW and LW on this set and not working.
It search for the frequencies, but once it is done, it gets frozen and will not change when turning the tuning knob.
At the same time this works fine on FM and SW bands

I did not understand why the manufacturer does not test the equipment for quality
    before leaving the factory?

Does anyone got the same defect?

This is the second time, I am returning a radio. My first was Sangean ATS909X.
While tuning SW, its not picking any stations.
TECSUN PL-380 if not defective, is a good radio for the size of a large mobile phone.
The ETM feature is interesting and very useful. But it should work properly.

I am rating only 1 star, because its very disappointing when you find a new radio is defective.

I request the manufacturer to make sure to test and verify that all features of the set works properly.
TECSUN PL-380, (What's this?) It's a great little radio. So far I'm 100% satisfied with it. For me the most surprising thing is the quality of the sound from such a small radio. I'm not an expert at all on short wave, but, that said, it seems to do a good job, so I'm confident that I'll be able to find English language stations on the short wave bands during foreign travel.
Nice little radio, lots and lots of features, This is a great addition to your emergency kit, and works well for all around use. Has surprisingly good sound for such a small radio. (It's about the size of two packs of cigarettes).

One of my favorite features is that it will run from a MINI-usb cable if you don't have batteries. I have a few lithium battery packs with USB ports used for emergency cell chargers, and it should work fine. Other features I didn't expect are the ability to scan a band and pre-program the stations, and has a built in room temperature display.

The only negative is the manual is quite dense and not great english, but it is understandable. This little radio can do a LOT so it has to be a little dense. For example, the radio comes preset to 9khz/Centigrade temperature. To set the display to Fahrenheit, it has to be OFF, then you hold the 9/10khz (3 button) until it changes to Fahrenheit. The manual explains that areas that use Fahrenheit generally use 10khz steps, so they tied them together. Not obvious, but its clear enough.

I like it. It was a great stocking stuffer for me.
TECSUN PL-380 DSP FM stereo. MW. SW. LW. World Band PLL Radio Receiver, I've had a chance to use this radio now for a few weeks and it's a great radio living up to expectations.
This radio is small and compact, great for traveling, it'll recharge your rechargeble batteries, it comes
with an extended SW antenna that works great for better reception. The radio has a lot of features that I
wasn't expecting. Tis is the radio to get if you want to hear what's going on around the world instead of
depending on what the mainstream media is spouting. Definitely recommend this radio.

This radio is using DSP si4734 Micro-chips (from Silicon Labs in USA) to digitalize the analog MW / FM / SW broadcasting signal base on the modern software technology and radio principles. It can highly improve on radio's sensitivity, selectivity, S/N ration and anti-interference. This TECSUN PL-380 with New Function - ETM (Easy Tuning Mode) This function is similar to ATS (Auto-tuning Storage).ETM can scan through the whole frequency band and select all the available stations. However, unlike ATS, ETM will not store or replace those exiting memories with the new scan. It works just like a fast tuner; it is easily tune to the next available station by a click of the tuning wheel. You may find this function is useful when you are travelling to other country! Because you can use ETM to scan through the frequency band without delete or replace any of the memory that is stored back home. Moreover, I found that ETM can scan for more weak channels than ATS.

Kaito Electronics Inc. KA500RED Voyager Emergency Radio- Red

Very Disappointed, From the description and pictures this radio sounds ideal. I purchased two, one for a gift and one for myself. The performance on both has been less than ideal in almost all aspects. Sensitivity and selectivity sound quality has been poor and the weather/all hazards band and alert has stopped working on both radios. The one good thing is that the solar charger does a good job of running the radio in direct sunlight. The crank on one of the radios broke almost immediately with very little use. I cannot recommend.
Newer is not better, (What's this?) I had a Kaito radio from 4 years ago. Love it. I bought several to give as gifts. Then I bought more. That is when my friends told me the sound quality was "fuzzy" and the NOAA alerts did not work. Sent back two for refunds. The other three went to their shop. The communication was great. Emails back and forth. One radio needed a new part, the other two worked I was told. Turns out you have to find the "perfect" spot for reception for NOAA alert. Not so with my older one. The sound quality is still far below my old one. I love the service I received but not sure I would ever buy a new one of these again.
Great radio!!, (What's this?) Great radio!! solar charger works great. Used it to charge my cell phone and as a reading light. I am getting one for everyone in my life.

  • AA Batteries - You can use 3 normal AA batteries to run the radio for maximum reception.
  • Solar Panel Power - Under the direct sunlight, the solar panel will power the radio without a problem.
  • Dynamo Cranking Power - 120 turns per minute of cranking will power the built in Ni-MH battery pack with strong current and voltage.
  • Built-in Rechargeable battery pack.
  • Charge from a computer via USB port.
