    Armband Radio AM/FM Digital Tuner

Pure junk, (What's this?) If you want to waste some money, do it in a way they does not fill the garbage dump. This product did not receive any FM stations, in a metropolitan area. Pure garbage.
AWFUL RECEPTION!!! STICK TO AN IPOD OR XM SIRIUS PORTABLE RADIO, Ok so this is the third radio I've reviewed, and three time's a charm. In my previous review, I said that I would replace my sony radio because the reception still sucks. I went back to exchange it for this device, and it was the worst portable radio I've had. The reception was so awful that I went back and had my money refunded. I don't even know why the heck do they make these things if most of the radio stations won't even work. Here's my advice. Don't waste your money on these portable radios. You'll get less stations than what you payed for depending on the price. Like I've said before if you want to use a portable device just stick to an IPOD or mp3 player or better yet if you like being outdoors just get an xm/sirius subscription for only $12.95 a month. I have a portable XM Radio but since it only works outdoors and I ride the bus alot, and I study at school and wait between classes I still wanted to hear local radio, but because of the kind of radios stores are selling now I guess that won't be happening. One more thing to point of, your satisfaction for radios like these depends on the market where you live and what your music tastes are radio wise.
You get what you pay for, For about $15, I don't understand what these whiners expected. I use this radio on my bike rides and I have no prob with most of the FM stations, nice and clear, the AM station is another story, I get most of them and many have some kind of noise or inteference with them, some are not that bad at all. You have to keep in mind that this radio uses the headset wire as its antenna and sometimes you may have to re-align it to get the best reception. All in all, for $15 bucks it does its job.
The headphone happens to be very confortable, good sound and I can still hear the traffic around me, so I consider them safe. I also like the fact that they fit from behind your neck instead of wraping around the top of your head. The controls are also well done, It takes one long push of a button for the radio to seek to the next station, it has memory for your fabs, reponsive volume control, heck! what else do expect for the money. If you are not picky, I recommend it.
Terrible product, The worst Amplitude Modulation reception I've ever encountered on a portable radio device. Seriously, the AM frequency is comically bad, as if it were some kind of sick joke on behalf of the manufacturer. Incompetence on a design level or cost corners cut are the only logical explanations in my mind for how it could be this nonfunctional. Only one station on the AM dial in my area comes in reasonably well through this maddening abomination but it's entirely dependent on where I'm at geographically; if I'm going up an incline or I'm near a metropolitan area, all bets are off. If I'm in flat terrain with no other interfering electronic stimulus within a multi-mile radius this sole station maybe comes in static-free for a few minutes if I'm lucky. Also, the armband design is cumbersome and it devours batteries with ridiculous ease. When I finally locate a quality portable radio replacement I'm going to destroy this thing ceremonially with a sledge hammer. In fairness the FM did come in exponentially better but as a person who bought it almost entirely for AM usage my harsh criticism and bottom-of-the-barrel star rating are justified.
it doesnt work, (What's this?) It looks good but i put in new batteries n it still didnt work.

Sony ICF-SW23 FM / MW / SW1-7 Portable World Band Receiver Radio (Japan Import)

Make sure you get the SW band coverage you expect, The Sony SW 2x series radios were great. I think the 23 is still made new by Sony as indicated by this listing. The 2x series radios have Dual conversion (so very little breakthrough and images from strong stations), and are very sensitive on AM and SW.

But, these were manufactured with DIFFERENT SW coverage for different parts of the world. So make sure before you buy, what you want in terms of coverage and then make sure the radio provides this coverage. For example if you want 7-7.5 MHZ coverage make sure the radio provides it. Sony SW 2x versions may or may not have this range depending on which world version you buy. Still the 2x radios are just excellent in general. I recommend them. Great survival and general listing radios. Yes, they are small, so they are not high fidelity, but if sensitivity is the main thing along with great selectivity, then these are THE radio to have for emergencies or camping, etc. Just be sure you get the SW band coverage you want.

Kaito KA2031 AM/FM NOAA Wearther Radio with Alert & Sleep/Wake-up Timer

Hit or Miss ?, Seemed to have a great combo of features at a bargain price.
I couldn't get it to work. Contacted "inscrutable" Kaito Rep, they wouldn't exchange, was told to press reset button, I was resetting all the time. Couldn't get features to work consistently or any reasonable volume with or without external antenna. Ordered the AC adapter from Kaito, it never showed up. Wanted the NOAA SAME alert feature with the clock radio and alarm features. Never got that far to try them. Gave up and tossed it on my gadget junk pile. Glad I got off cheap, could have been worse, no more Kaito Experiences for me. Too bad, I've read soome good things about their other radios, but my customer service "treatment" combined with a dud unit really put me off.
Big Buttons are GREAT, (What's this?) I like it a lot so far ,,, I must now wait to see how long batteries last ,,, It has all the basic features like a light and many storage locations for AM and FM ,,, easily stored to and accessed !!!

    I LOVE THE BIG BUTTONS.
    Don't ever buy, (What's this?)
It didn't work at all!, The biggest mistake that I made was throwing the receipt away, cause I would have returned it in a second. I put the batteries in and the clock came on immediately, but I could not get the radio to work/ turn on. I left it on as I didn't have time to full with it. Later that night the radio came on randomly and then it wouldn't let us turn save the channel presets. Then it wouldn't let us turn the radio off. We ended up taking the batteries out. So the next step is to throw it out. Maybe this one was is faulty, but I wouldn't recommend wasting your money.
Poor reception, (What's this?) The radio works, but I have been disappointed with it's reception of some FM stations that other radios can pick up.
Very Poor Audio Quality, (What's this?)
    Total Junk..., (What's this?)
Poor reception, poor sound, I was looking for a radio with digital tuning. I am disappointed with the Kaito. The AM reception is poor even with the external antenna. The sound is very tinny.

I would not recommend the Kaito KA2031. It's inexpensive but, for me, unusable.
Perfect sprcimen, (What's this?) Nice radio. Arrived quickly and works for exactly what we needed it for. Perfect for our camper trailer.
Returned this radio., Many reasons why I returned this radio was that the buttons to operate it were much too hard to use. The reception was not as advertised. I guess you get what you pay for.

No analog TV broadcasts will be receivable. It can also give you real time weather alert even when the radio is off. With direct digit-entry operation and 10 direct keys for memory presets, this radio allows quick access to your favorite stations. There are twenty presets, 10 stations for AM and 10 for the FM.. One important feature of the KA2031 is the sleep/wake-up timer. With this feature, it is possible to not only have the radio turn off after a selected amount of time (10-90 minutes), but also to have the radio turn on at a preset time. This 3-band radio picks up FM, AM and weather channels. FM frequencies range between 87.6 and 108 MHz while AM frequencies range from 530 to 1710 kHz. You will pick up weather channels 1-7. You can listen to the radio via the speaker, or through optional headphones via the headphone jack. Whether through the built-in ferrite bar antenna or the telescopic FM and weather antenna, you are sure to receive the best possible reception. TECSUN PL-380 DSP FM stereo. MW. SW. LW. World Band PLL Radio Receiver, LCD Display, ETM Function Added

Excellent, (What's this?) This portable radio is excellent in sensitivity, selectivity and build quality. Since I have been with amateur radio and SWL'ing since the 60's, I admit, it is hard to accept that a hand held radio, using a DSP chip can be so good, but it is. I thoroughly enjoy how this radio and suggest it to newcomers and seasoned listeners alike. It will not decode 'ham' transmissions on shortwave, but it's AM/FM and SW broadcast performance is great. Hi Fi sound, no, but, it's a small radio using the latest DSP technology from a US company (Silicon Labs). One feature you will like is ETM, in which the radio will scan whatever band you want--FM, AM or SW and store all the stations into memory that you then can scroll through. Again, in the 60's when I started shortwave listening, you manually tuned the radio through the shortwave frequencies to find stations to listen to. With this Tecsun, you press a button, wait a couple of minutes, and then you use the tuning dial to find out what the radio discovered for you. Maybe takes the mystery out of it, but very utilitarian and ETM works! Get this and enjoy. Thanks.
A Great Item for the Right Person, (What's this?) This radio is a great product and a great value. It is not for the casual listener who wants only to listen to his local FM stations. It requires an investment of time and a bit of patience to learn how to use its amazing set of features, but pays handsomely for one's trouble with great and versatile performance. I've never seen such a great value. If you're someone who travels widely, wants to listen to short wave, or needs a unit that you can tailor to your unique needs, this is the unit for you.
Easy to tune, very good reception, lousy documentation, (What's this?) I bought this radio to replace an analog tuning radio I had in my emergency kit. After a long power failure that even took our TV stations off the air, I struggled to tune to the radio station that was still transmitting. This radio looked like a good deal with some great options. It meet my expectations in the ability to receive far away FM stations (LA stations from San Diego) and ease of tuning using the keypad. The instructions however were so terse and poor that I found it hard to figure out how to store in memory and scan the memory. With more detailed, step by step instructions, I would have given it a perfect score.
Ultralight World Band Radio. I'm impressed., I recently purchased a Tecsun PL-380 from Kaito Electronics the US supplier. Upon opening the box the first impression was just how ultralight weight the radio is compared to my other world band portables, yet still has a solid feel when holding the case. It is really pleasing to see the workmanship and quality of the Chinese radios improving, although I note that the prices have also been increasing as well. It wasn't long ago that Japan lead the way in world band radios with the likes of Sony, then Taiwan with the likes of Sangean taking the market and now it looks like it is China with Tecsun. We should be thankful that at least someone is still manufacturing world band radios considering the demise of many of the major SW broadcasters in the west.

Anyway back to the radio. The radio didn't come with batteries or a USB charger, but came with a clip-on antenna wire, earphones and a small zippered pouch that includes a small earphone pouch...hmm very thoughtful. After unpacking I installed 3 x AA NiMH (from another Kaito radio) and the radio immediately identified on the display "NiMh" and the charge state.
Great Buy!, (What's this?) Since I rely on so many reviews for my Amazon purchases, I figured it was high time I finally wrote one myself. I can't think of a better one to start with than the Tecsun PL-380.

I've had the Etón G2000A, the Etón E100, the Etón Buzz Aldrin and the Radio Shack "Travel Radio" (the last two were returned) and this is the best by far.

I'm not really a shortwave guy. I usually just listen to the radio in bed before I go to sleep, so I needed a small radio with not a lot of high tech features.

    This one is perfect.

The ETM tuning, regular memory tuning and direct entry are all convenient and easy to work with. The buttons are easy to use and not too small and the build seems solid to me. (As a U.S. citizen, I don't have much of a problem buying merchandise from a actual Chinese company. I do however take issue with American and European companies that have their factories in China. There's a big difference to me.)

Anyway, all in all it's a fantastic value for the price point.
TECSUN PL-380 SW radio, (What's this?) I am just happy to have and use this little radio so I can listen to SW stations (I do not care about AM/FM). The reception is very good, clear and easy if you use the memery functions to jump from one frequency to another. The amber light is good when you are listening to the radio with low light or being near the fireplace. Overall, I am happy to have it.
Krishnan, (What's this?) TECSUN PL-380 DSP FM stereo. MW. SW. LW. World Band PLL Radio Receiver, LCD Display, ETM Function Added

I am very much disappointed to find that the ETM feature is defective for MW and LW on this set and not working.
It search for the frequencies, but once it is done, it gets frozen and will not change when turning the tuning knob.
At the same time this works fine on FM and SW bands

I did not understand why the manufacturer does not test the equipment for quality
    before leaving the factory?

Does anyone got the same defect?

This is the second time, I am returning a radio. My first was Sangean ATS909X.
While tuning SW, its not picking any stations.
TECSUN PL-380 if not defective, is a good radio for the size of a large mobile phone.
The ETM feature is interesting and very useful. But it should work properly.

I am rating only 1 star, because its very disappointing when you find a new radio is defective.

I request the manufacturer to make sure to test and verify that all features of the set works properly.
TECSUN PL-380, (What's this?) It's a great little radio. So far I'm 100% satisfied with it. For me the most surprising thing is the quality of the sound from such a small radio. I'm not an expert at all on short wave, but, that said, it seems to do a good job, so I'm confident that I'll be able to find English language stations on the short wave bands during foreign travel.
Nice little radio, lots and lots of features, This is a great addition to your emergency kit, and works well for all around use. Has surprisingly good sound for such a small radio. (It's about the size of two packs of cigarettes).

One of my favorite features is that it will run from a MINI-usb cable if you don't have batteries. I have a few lithium battery packs with USB ports used for emergency cell chargers, and it should work fine. Other features I didn't expect are the ability to scan a band and pre-program the stations, and has a built in room temperature display.

The only negative is the manual is quite dense and not great english, but it is understandable. This little radio can do a LOT so it has to be a little dense. For example, the radio comes preset to 9khz/Centigrade temperature. To set the display to Fahrenheit, it has to be OFF, then you hold the 9/10khz (3 button) until it changes to Fahrenheit. The manual explains that areas that use Fahrenheit generally use 10khz steps, so they tied them together. Not obvious, but its clear enough.

I like it. It was a great stocking stuffer for me.
TECSUN PL-380 DSP FM stereo. MW. SW. LW. World Band PLL Radio Receiver, I've had a chance to use this radio now for a few weeks and it's a great radio living up to expectations.
This radio is small and compact, great for traveling, it'll recharge your rechargeble batteries, it comes
with an extended SW antenna that works great for better reception. The radio has a lot of features that I
wasn't expecting. Tis is the radio to get if you want to hear what's going on around the world instead of
depending on what the mainstream media is spouting. Definitely recommend this radio.

It can highly improve on radio's sensitivity, selectivity, S/N ration and anti-interference. This TECSUN PL-380 with New Function - ETM (Easy Tuning Mode) This function is similar to ATS (Auto-tuning Storage).ETM can scan through the whole frequency band and select all the available stations. However, unlike ATS, ETM will not store or replace those exiting memories with the new scan. It works just like a fast tuner; it is easily tune to the next available station by a click of the tuning wheel. You may find this function is useful when you are travelling to other country! Because you can use ETM to scan through the frequency band without delete or replace any of the memory that is stored back home. Moreover, I found that ETM can scan for more weak channels than ATS.
